ASHWATH RAO MBBS, MS

Allopathic Medicine, Cooperative Medicine and Surgical Oncology

Ashwath Rao is a highly esteemed surgeon and a key figure in the field of cooperative health. For the first time, Ashwath Rao developed and implemented a model of cooperative health along with a research team at PPHSF. Ashwath utilized the technological strengths of allopathy and aligned its advancements with personalized precision health interventions in curing challenging clinical conditions, including cancer, viral and infectious diseases and other chronic diseases. He completed his MBBS from KMC Manipal and his MS in General Surgery from Bangalore Medical College. Ashwath serves as the director of the Personalized Precision Health Systems Foundation (PPHSF) in Bangalore and holds the position of medical director at the Centre for Cooperative Health in Bangalore, India. Often considered the face of integrated medicine, Ashwath combines his allopathic training with deep roots in Ayurvedic practices, stemming from his traditional background in Ayurveda. His innovative cooperative medicine approach, which is based on the philosophy of personalized precision health systems, has been acknowledged by renowned cardiac surgeon-researcher MS Valiathan and other esteemed personalities, including former Supreme Court Judge Santhosh N. Hegde.

 

Ashwath Rao is the coprincipal investigator for the Ayu Emergency Care Project, a prestigious initiative endorsed by the Ministry of AYUSH, India. His significant contributions to this project have been well documented, with case reports featured in the repositories of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), India. He has saved numerous critically ill patients in intensive care unit (ICU) settings via Ayurvedic interventions, demonstrating the effectiveness of integrated medicine. In addition to his clinical and research endeavors, Ashwath edited the book “Navigating Through the Ayu Emergency Yathra: Project Report Summary and Strategic Evaluation” (ISBN 978-81-972693-2-5), which provides valuable insights and strategic evaluations of the Ayu Emergency Care Project. Ashwath’s leadership and scholarly contributions continue to drive advancements in cooperative medicine and personalized precision health systems, both nationally and internationally.

SKANTHESH LAKSHMANAN BAMS, PGDCR, MSc.

Ethics and Clinical Research

Skanthesh Lakshmanan is a dedicated Research Ethics Scholar and a Fogarty International Fellow in the Research Ethics Program. He currently serves as the director of the Personalized Precision Health Systems Foundation (PPHS Foundation). Skanthesh completed his Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Sri Jayendara Saraswati Ayurveda College in Chennai. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in visual media and journalism from Mathrubhumi Media School and a postgraduate diploma in clinical research and pharmacovigilance from ICRI Delhi. His academic background is further complemented by his role as a Research Consultant with Aarogyam UK. As the Chief Coordinator for the Ayu Emergency Yatra, a nationwide sensitization program endorsed by the ministry of AYUSH, India, Skanthesh played a pivotal role in its execution. He has also served as a scientific content consultant with Athreya Ayurveda Pvt Limited in California. Skanthesh’s major areas of work include creating intercultural knowledge systems for traditional medicine through intercultural knowledge assessment and ethics technology assessment. For the first time, Skanthesh developed and presented a comprehensive model for the ethics assessment of technology and innovation in the context of nanotechnology innovations for health.

 

He is a founder member and Research Chair at the Integrated Ayurveda Network UK, where he has helped to establish an Ayurveda practice-based research network. Skanthesh Lakshmanan has coauthored several papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including assessments of Indian systems of medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, featured in the esteemed journal Frontiers in Medicine. His focus is on creating innovative clinical research designs for traditional medicine and advocating for cognitive justice in the context of the knowledge domains of the Global South. Skanthesh’s contributions to research ethics, traditional medicine, and clinical innovation continue to drive advancements in personalized precision health systems globally.

VINAYAK PADIKKAL VARYAM  BAMS, MPH

Public Health Audit, Epidemiology and Health Technologies

Vinayak Padikkal Varyam is a distinguished epidemiologist and public health expert with extensive experience working with leading institutions. He serves as the director of the Personalized Precision Health Systems Foundation (PPHS Foundation) in Bangalore and is the Chief Program and Research Implementation Consultant for the Ayu Emergency Care Project. Vinayak holds a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree and a Master of Public Health in Social Epidemiology from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He is also the Managing Trustee for the Centre for Advanced Studies and Integrated Research in Ayurveda (CASIRA). His notable career includes significant roles, such as District Project Manager at the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Sciences Studies (AMCHSS), Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), and Kerala, which is one of the premier public health institutes internationally recognized. In this role, he was responsible for designing and implementing the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) project in Kerala, which is based on the WHO STEPS approach. His work involved identifying and selecting relevant schools and panchayats, conducting advocacy and capacity building at the grassroots level, institutionalizing lessons learned, and coordinating with government counterparts to implement best practices.

 

Vinayak Padikkal Varyam has also edited the book “Navigating Through the Ayu Emergency Yathra: Project Report Summary and Strategic Evaluation” (ISBN 978-81-972693-2-5) and coauthored an article titled “Making the Research and Innovation Ethical: A Conceptual Framework for Ethics Assessment of Nanotechnology Innovations” published in 2024.His major areas of work include creating intercultural knowledge systems for traditional medicine through intercultural knowledge assessment and ethics technology assessment. He has presented various papers on the topic of ethics assessment of technology and innovation. Vinayak Padikkal Varyam’s dedication to public health and his innovative approach to integrating traditional medicine with modern scientific practices continue to drive significant advancements in healthcare.

ORIPARAMBIL SIVARAMAN NIRMAL GHOSH PhD

Personalized Precision Health Systems, Nanomedicine, Quantum Information Transport and Emergence of Complex Systems

Nirmal Ghosh is a nanotechnologist with research interests in complex systems, quantum information transport in materials, quantum matter and its pragmatic applications in the field of One Health. For the first time in the world, Nirmal Ghosh conceptualized philosophy and the term “Personalized Precision Health Systems” and later extrapolated it to the philosophy of cooperative health and personalized precision medicine with the help of his research team at PPHSF. Nirmal Ghosh is currently serving as the director of the PPHS Foundation, Bangalore. He is also working as a Professor of Physics at BITM Bellary, Karnataka, India. Earlier, he was with VRC, Kerala, as the director of research (April 2022 to August 2024). He also served in various administrative and research positions, including Head of RIH and ARL, the Government of Kerala (April 2019--March 2022) and Scientist-D at ARL, the Government of Kerala (October 2017--March 2019). His research interests include complex systems, emergent phenomena, emergence, systems engineering of nanomaterials, nanocomposites and dimensionally modulated nanohybrids for applications in electronics, magnetism, and optics. His research group is working on the development and characterization of polymer nanocomposites and nanohybrids for mechanical, biomedical and environmental remediation applications. Prior to this, Nirmal had heavily invested in indigenous cognition and knowledge systems, epistemicide, and ontological reversal.

 

Some research projects that he conceptualized and led include the following: (i) Technology incubation in the practice of health knowledge systems for evidence generation and scientific validation. (ii) The development of reproducible research models for public health. (iii) Nanosensor-based detection platforms for drug standardization. (iv) Quality control and scientific validation of phytochemicals in drugs. (v) Biocharacterization and scientific validation of minerals used in pharmaceutical applications. (vi) Development of antiviral and anti-inflammatory drugs from phytochemical formulations for the treatment of COVID-19. (vii) Structure‒property relationships and scientific validation of personalized precision medicines and nanotherapeutics derived from minerals. Nirmal Ghosh received his B.Sc. Physics and B.Ed. from the University of Calicut. He received his M.Sc. Physics from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu and M.Tech. and PhD in Nanoscience and Technology from the Centre for Nanoscience and Technology, Pondicherry University, India.

SREEKUMAR NAMBOODIRI MD

Ayurveda, Cooperative Medicine, Pediatrics, Learning and Developmental Disorders

Sreekumar Namboodiri is a pioneer in the field of Ayurveda, and specialized in Ayurveda pediatrics and Indigenous cognition. He is the key figure in the field of cooperative health. He combines his ayurvedic training with deep knowledge in traditional practices, stemming from his background in Ayurveda. His innovative  methods in cooperative medicine approach, which is based on the philosophy of personalized precision health systems, has been a pillar and leading face of Centre for Cooperative Health established under PPHSF. He is currently serving as the Medical Director and Executive Council member of PPHSF.

MAEL VOEGELI MD, PhD

Allopathic Medicine and Cooperative-emergency Medicine

Maël Voegeli is an expert in emergency medicine with strong background in practice of biomedicine. He is the director of International Cooperative of Universities India (ICUI) - LUCI France. He currently serves as the member of Executive Council and Advisory Board of PPHSF. He is leading the advancements in the emergency life care support and integration of Jeevaraksha's Model, ToT,  and A-ECLS in CCH, PPHSF. Mael is the Principal Investigator of the flagship program of ICUI "Ayu Emergency Care Project" and edited  the book “Navigating Through the Ayu Emergency Yathra: Project Report Summary and Strategic Evaluation” (ISBN 978-81-972693-2-5) to show case the outcome of the project. He presented papers in various international conferences and workshops including ICTAM 2023 and ITDW 2024.

RAJNIKANT PATEL BAMS

Traditional Medicine and Cooperative Medicine

Rajnikant Patel, a distinguished Ayurvedic practitioner, has made significant contributions to holistic healing and medical research. He completed his B.A.M.S. from Atreya Ayurveda Medical College in Bangalore and now serves as the Chief Ayurveda Physician at Agnivesh Ayurved Hospital in Surat, Gujarat. Dr. Patel is renowned for his groundbreaking work in treating Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) with Ayurvedic medicines, managing over 1500 cases and earning international acclaim. His commitment to advancing Ayurvedic knowledge is evident through his publications on diverse medical conditions and his role as a Senior International Consultant for JIVA Ayurveda Pvt Ltd. He has published remarkable case reports on Ayur Cel Project an initiative supported and funded by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. These cases cover diverse conditions, including necrosed esophagus, pulmonary mucormycosis, blepharospasm, cholelithiasis, cervical canal stenosis, post-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage complications, necrotizing wounds, and aspergillosis.Dr. Rajnikant’s expertise spans a wide range of health concerns, including Panchkarma, critical care, cancer, autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, respiratory diseases, ENT and ophthalmology, stroke rehabilitation, hormonal diseases, renal disorders, psychiatric care, wound care, and musculoskeletal issues. He envisions a global collaboration in Ayurveda, training young doctors, and providing free care to those in need. Currently Rajnikat is serving as the member of Executive Council of PPHSF and leading the research and development in the domain of cooperative medicine using Ayurveda.

ERIC ROSENBUSH MSTCM, DACM

Classical Asian Medicine Systems

Eric Rosenbush is a doctor of Chinese medicine and licensed acupuncturist in the US and India, and has been practicing, researching, and teaching Tibetan and Ayurvedic medicines for decades (gunanatha.com). He is president and cofounder of Drangsong Foundation (drangsong.org), a US nonprofit organization working in the field of traditional medicine and ancient sciences. Currently they are translating and archiving medical and yogic texts from Tibetan and Sanskrit languages, and supporting the Sowa Rigpa International College in Kathmandu. Eric has also led various projects including renovating historic temples, building facilities for meditation retreat, and conserving threatened medicinal plants in India through cultivation under his NGO. This has included working with high altitude villages in conjunction with local government, NGOs and Universities in Uttarakhand to develop systems for medicinal plant cultivation, harvesting and processing; Botanical research in collaboration with Indian, Tibetan, and Chinese doctors and botanists; Delivering presentations on traditional medicine, jyotisha, and botanical conservation at various conferences and event around the world. Eric has contributed to the domain of traditional medicine by translating medical texts from Tibetan and Sanskrit, development of course materials for Sorig Khang International, and BSRMS and PG curricula for the Sowa Rigpa International College, Nepal, and providing technical inputs to the WHO's Benchmarks for Traditional Tibetan Medicine. He is serving as the Head of Department of Research and Translation, Sowa Rigpa International College, Kathmandu, Sanskrit instructor for the Rangjung Yeshe Institute, Nepal, and member of Executive Council of PPHSF. Currently Eric is also involved in the PPHSF flagship project "Revitalization of Traditional Chemical Therapeutics" as the co-editor of the translation of Rasaratna Samucchaya along with commentary written by Acharya Sasikumar Nechiyil.
